TRIP IN SHORT

CHANNEL

This is the part of Channel-Port region, which is significant landscape: from Sibenik bridge together with the channel st. Anthony. Channel itself is the only sea passage to reach Sibenik from the sea. It is 2500 m long, approx 300 m wide, 20-40 meters deep and is one of the busiest sea passages on the Adriatic.

Geomorphological structure got this shape around 10.000 years ago, when canyon of Krka river was submerged.

With its special form it is protecting Sibenik gulf to be one of the safest on the Adriatic.

ST. NICHOLAS FORT

Fort of st. Nicholas is the magnificent building on the way out to the open sea, made in times of Venice renaissance builders. It is the only venetian fort built entirely on the sea. Surrounded by the sea from all sides, it is almost fully saved in the original form.

MILITARY TUNNELS

There is a sea tunnel dug out in the rocks, excavated during WWII. It was used for some time later for its primary purposes, this few hundered meters long tunnel today is an attraction among all of the special things this channel reveals.

SIBENIK GULF

Gulf of Sibenik is part of the sea surface between Sibenik bridge and st. Anthony channel. It is home to many sea species that live in brackish waters.

SIBENIK BRIDGE

Famous concrete arched bridge across Sibenik gulf was built from 1964 and was finished in 1966, with first cars driving over the bridge on 27th July 1966.

Its arch, 246 meters span, was the first bridge in the world made by cantilever method - with no scaffolding resting on the ground.
